This year, Caterpillar turns 90 years old. According to www.businessweek.com, the average life expectancy for a Fortune 500 company is between 40 and 50 years. Caterpillar’s 90th Anniversary, therefore, is a time to celebrate—a time to reflect on the past and look toward the future with anticipation. To celebrate this milestone, Caterpillar shall highlight its innovations and people by showcasing 90 artifacts and telling stories that represent the reasons why—against the odds—Caterpillar has thrived for 90 years.

UPDATE! The making of...a Caterpillar 578 Pipelayer

Custom scale model builder Gertjan Veld has recently started his next project of building a Caterpillar 578 Pipelayer by using the Caterpillar D9R Track-Type Tractor from NZG in 1:50th scale.

It is our goal for the coming period in the "Making of...a Caterpillar 578 Pipelayer" to show you how this custom model will be achieved.

Gertjan will share his building skills through its construction photos with little notes to keep us informed of his progress. Gradually it shows the making of a unique model of the Caterpillar 578 Pipelayer.

Today I have added the first update of the "The making of ..." This episode Gertjan his pictures show you the actual start of the project and the metal shoes.

HIGRO is Dutch and stands for HIstorisch GROndverzet which can be translated to "Historical Earthmoving" and their anually Event was held 14, 15 and 16 may 2015 in Bant, "Zandexploitatie Schoterveld" (Noord-Oostpolder), The Netherlands.

It is a unique Event of historical earthmoving equipment. You could not only see classic and oldtimer earthmoving machinery up close but actually watch them while in action! This year there where once again the necessary Caterpillar machines present.

UPDATE! The making of...a Caterpillar D10T with Push Blade

Custom scale model builder Gertjan Veld shows you one of his latest projects: Building a Caterpillar D10T Track-Type Tractor with Push Blade by using the Caterpillar D10T Track-Type Tractor from Norscot in 1:50th scale.

Today I added the fourth and finall update of this "The making of... a Caterpillar D10T Track-Type Tractor with Push Blade". This episode shows you how Gertjan Veld takes the original scale model from Norscot and both kits in hand and makes some major adjustments at some points and improves to end up as accurate as possible. You will be amazed with the high standards he sets!

Gertjan shares his building skills through its construction photos with little notes and gradually it shows the making of a unique model of the Caterpillar D10T Track-Type Tractor with Push Blade.
