LATEST ADDITION! Caterpillar 555D [Tonkin 1:50]

Yesterday I received from Central Valley Models this latest addition from Tonkin Replicas in my collection and directly took it to the photo set:
  • Caterpillar 555D Wheel Skidder #TR40004
Despite the fact that Tonkin Replicas, end of January 2015, surprised us pleasantly with this Caterpillar Forest machine scale model in their 1:50th scale Diecast Construction Series it was long uncertain if this model, whether or not through Tonkin Replicas or Diecast Masters would actually be manufactured and supplied.

It became quite tense and unsure when during the Toy Fair 2016, early February 2016, the model was not announced in the first Diecast Masters catalogue.

In the end it appears a small production run of the Caterpillar 555D Wheel Skidder nonetheless is manufactured and supplied and exclusively through Central Valley Models for sale in their Central Valley Models eBay store.

You can find more pictures from the Caterpillar 555D Wheel Skidder scale model, machine 1:1 and background information in the category Skidders

The making of... a Caterpillar D6K Welding Tack Rig

Custom scale model builder Thomas Wilk shows you one of his latest projects: Building a Caterpillar D6K Welding Tack Rig in 1:50th scale.

Today is the start of this "The making of... a ". Thomas has worked on this project very closely with his friend and fellow collector Urs Peyer.

It is our goal for the coming period in the "The making of...Caterpillar D6K Welding Tack Rig” to show you how this custom model will be achieved. You will be amazed with the high standards he sets!

Thomas will share his building skills through its construction photos with little notes to keep us informed of the building process. Gradually it shows the making of a unique model by using as donor model the Caterpillar D6K Track-Type Tractor made by Norscot in 1:50th scale to create this one of a kind Caterpillar D6K Welding Tack Rig and added (as he always does -)) tons of extra details including some scratch built features. But even that was not enough: He made a unique diorama which is a small masterpiece on its own. As you will see it turned into a true museum piece and a very valuable and unique addition to his Caterpillar collection!

Enjoy reading & watching!
